About Kicher & Company

Kicher & Company began as the consulting practice of Dr. Thomas P. Kicher, Professor of Mechanical and Civil Engineering at the Case School of Engineering of Case Western Reserve University. From 1959 to 1972, the work concentrated on the stress analysis and prediction of mechanical behaviors of complex devices and structures for which analysis methods did not exist. In many cases, the analysis results had to be confirmed with a validation experiment involving the measurement of the imposed loads or resulting strain behavior.

In time the practice was expanded to include the failure analysis and design of mechanical and structural systems for which established prediction tools did not exist or where new technology had to be infused and new materials applied. Critical to the success of most of these tasks was the measurement of mechanical strains to characterize the imposed “loads” or the resulting behavior. These tools have been applied to a wide variety of tasks involving the failure analysis, design development and manufacture of mechanical devices and structural systems.
